Validation of Word documents in Office 365
We will start by discussing why Microsoft Word is a poor choice for authoring XML documents and why we are sometimes forced to accept it anyway. In this way, we will demonstrate the need for validation of Word manuscripts in preparation for transformation into other formats.
We will go on to look at existing approaches to the problem, particularly Andrew Sales' 2015 "schematron4Word" solution, and establish how changes in the ecosystem may be leveraged for improvement.
We will demonstrate a working version of "schematron4Word v2025.0", a framework for creating Word Add-Ins to perform Schematron checks on Word documents.
Finally, we will discuss the potential for future development and features.
