XSLT for beginners
XSLT has a reputation for being intimidating, but really it's just a way to turn XML into whatever you need: HTML, text, JSON, other XML. This tutorial is for people who've never touched it before.
It will start from the basics: What a stylesheet actually is, how templates work, XSLT’s ‘push’ and ‘pull’, why it can feel a bit backwards. From there I plan to work through variables, parameters, and named templates, building up to real, working stylesheets.
Most of the time will go toward actually writing and running transformations with a practical example built around each concept. Attendees will leave able to write their own stylesheets and keep going from there.
Jennifer Ramirez is an XML/XSL Software Developer based in Germany, specializing in scientific publishing and health technology. She holds degrees in Health Information Science and works with open-source publishing pipelines for scientific and medical research using XML and XSLT.
Before moving into publishing, she worked on healthcare integration projects internationally, including EHR implementation in Nairobi and epidemiological analysis in British Columbia, and remains active in healthcare interoperability standards like HL7 CDA. Outside of work, she enjoys puzzle competitions, languages, and painting.
