Declarative Amsterdam

Declarative Amsterdam 2026: 12 and 13 November

CWI Conference center, Science Park, Amsterdam

Declarative Amsterdam is an annual conference focusing on the technologies and methods used for declarative programming and declarative data.

Declarative programming is a style of programming that expresses the logic of computation without describing its control flow. It allows you to focus on the ‘what’ of a program, rather than the ‘how’. Declarative programs can be constructed in a fraction of the time, using much less code than a traditional computer program. Declarative methods for programming and data modelling can help avoid making the mistakes that have led to failing software projects for several decades.

Declarative techniques are used in databases, web technology, data storage and manipulation, and lots of other places. In our archive, you will find some surprising examples, such as operating a laser cutter, composing music, and drawing diagrams. A declarative approach proves to be a very useful tool. Professionals can benefit from it in their daily work. It is also useful for students to know of declarative ways to solve problems.

The eighth Declarative Amsterdam conference will take place on 12 and 13 November 2026, at the Conference center of the Science Park, Amsterdam. It will be a hybrid conference with the opportunity to attend live or online, for both attendees and presenters.
